June Events Roundup

Concert fans in front of a lit stage

June: in the post-football season the only options are to make the most of the sunshine and the big gigs. Whether it’s comedy, music or theatre, this is when the UK’s fun-culture season kicks off.

Luckily for you, we have the perfect guide to the best bits. So sit back, grab yourself a cold drink and start researching where to stay near these fantastic events.

1. Stars of the North East

Newcastle Racecourse hosts folk rock heroes Lindisfarne on 6th June. Come for the racing and stay for the musical memories. Rod Clements is back in the band, so you’ll get the original flavour of the classics. And if you’ve not heard ‘We Can Swing Together’ sung by a crowd, you’re sure to here.

Under-5s go free, while standard entry tickets start at £20. This is one for the family, so sort out your stay within budget in a Newcastle Travelodge.

2. Cambridge’s 806th Midsummer Fair

Join in and mark 806 years of Midsummer fun in this relaxed university town. This year’s event is waiting on dates, but it’s usually held across one week in mid-month. And it’s free!

Bring the kids to the UK’s oldest travelling fun fair for brightly painted merry-go-rounds, shiny new rollercoasters, sticky toffee apples and more. This is a traditional must-do come the long, balmy nights of an English June.

Stay in our Cambridge Central hotel and you’re less than 2 miles from Midsummer Common, where the fair’s held, and just 1 mile from the city centre.

Wander through the university’s Botanic Garden (they’ve got over 10,000 species of plant!), and see the ornate university buildings the best way: The Backs. If you rent a punt and work your way down the little riverways behind the colleges, you’ll get clear views and a peaceful atmosphere.

3. Fringe in Bath

Bath Fringe Festival takes place from 22nd May – 7th June and is a family-friendly showcase for all types of performance art.

From acrobats to musicians, spoken word to cabaret, the festival is renowned for its diverse schedule, while the setting is an unspoilt example of a picturesque UK city.

And don’t miss the Art Market and Photomarathon exhibition, featuring works by amateurs across the UK.

Our Bath Travelodge is the perfect base to explore from, so book today and love your stay.

4. Hip hop and Elton in Gloucestershire

Two acts, two very different sounds and each act at opposite ends of their careers, but both are sure to be rocking Gloucestershire this June.

First, Mercury Music Prize-winning, Edinburgh-based hip hop group Young Fathers are playing Gloucester Guildhall on 1st June.

In contrast, Elton John will play a packed out Kingsholm Stadium (home of Gloucester Rugby Club) on 7th June. Expect all the hits, including ‘Rocket Man’, ‘I’m Still Standing’ and, of course, ‘Tiny Dancer’.

Check out our Gloucestershire Travelodge so you have somewhere to rest your weary feet after dancing the night away.
