Cheddar Gorge

Cheddar Gorge is one of England’s most iconic and spectacular landscapes and an inspirational location to admire the natural wonders England has to offer. At almost 400 feet deep and three miles long, this is England’s most immense gorge and most definitely one of the most spectacular natural sights. The gorge began forming about one million years ago during the last Ice Age when water from melting glaciers formed a river, gradually carved into the limestone rock, creating the breathtaking cliffs and rockfaces that the location boasts. The Cheddar Yeo River eventually made its way underground, creating the famous Cheddar Caves that the public can explore all year round.

The Cotswolds

Within The Cotswolds, visitors can explore quintessentially English honey-coloured stone villages, take in quaint market towns, marvel at some of the country’s most lavish palaces, castles and country houses and explore the natural world in acclaimed reserves. Discover over 3,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways or make a splash in the lake-land area with its very own inland beach. Unsurprisingly this landscape provides a rich harvest of food and drinks with local cheeses, meats and drinks appearing on the menus of local gastro pubs, old inns, colourful cafes and fine dining restaurants scattered generously across the region.

Stonehenge

With a history spanning 4,500 years, Stonehenge has many different meanings to visitors today. It is a wonder of the world, a spiritual place and a source of inspiration. The Stone Circle is a masterpiece of engineering, and building it would have taken a colossal effort from hundreds of well-organised people who at the time only had access to simple tools and technologies. The purpose of Stonehenge is unknown to us, and it has no apparent practical purpose. It was not lived in and could not have been defended, so there must have been a spiritual reason why Neolithic and Bronze Age people put so much effort into building it. Why not book a visit to Stonehenge this year and discover your own theory as to how this breathtaking monument came to be.
