The story of Highclere Castle

Though there's records of the site dating back to 749AD, Highclere only started developing into the stunning manor it is today in the early 19th century. Work was finally completed in 1878, and the house was an important political centre through the late Victorian era. It was used as a military hospital during World War One, and a home for evacuated children during World War Two. Today, it's host to many historical exhibits and events, such as the hugely popular vintage garden party, well worth checking out.
