Enjoy historic Thatcham

The Berkshire town of Thatcham has claim to being the longest continuously populated settlement in the country, dating back to prehistoric times. And with Highclere Castle - the setting for Downton Abbey - and Donnington Castle both within a few miles, there's plenty for history buffs.

Spend a day at the races

Thatcham is well placed for visits to Nearby Newbury Racecourse, which hosts live entertainment following evening races on Thursdays. Newbury, just three miles away, is also home to the popular Lockinge Stakes flat race in May.

Take in some nature

Thatcham is home to a thriving nature reserve at Thatcham Reed Beds, which is teeming with birdlife and has been granted Site of Special Scientific Interest status, as well as the adjacent Nature Discovery Centre, which includes a wealth of family friendly interactive wildlife displays and events.
