Tour historic royal Reading

The village of Twyford sits in the Thames Valley, less than 10 minutes by train from the historic town of Reading. History buffs should begin at the picturesque Market Place, home to Grade I listed St Lawrence church, dating back to the 12th century. The ruins of Reading Abbey draw visitors thanks to its royal connections, having been founded in 1121 by King Henry I. Inside, visitors can marvel at the 'Burial of Henry I', painted by renowned landscape artist Harry Morley in 1916.

Posh plonk at Stanlake Park Wine Estate

Just over a mile from the centre of Twyford, the imposing Stanlake Park Wine Estate offers relaxed tasting tours of its vineyard winery. Visit the vines on show inside the charming walled gardens and learn about grape pressing, before the all-important sampling of award-winning English wines. The Cellar Shop is perfect for souvenirs.

Explore the Chiltern Hills

The Chilterns, a revered Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are just half an hour from Twyford. Get your boots on and ascend the chalk escarpment for stunning views over the Vale of Aylesbury. In autumn, head for Wendover Woods for glorious scenery. Planning a trip to Twyford? Travelodge Maidenhead Central hotel is just 10 minutes by train.
