Welcome to Buckfastleigh

Varied, lively, and with a touch of mysterious intrigue, Buckfastleigh is a true gem of the South Devon area. Known as the home of the Benedictine Buckfast Abbey, which is just one element of the eclectic mix of historic and modern attractions, this town is also surrounded by miles of bucolic Devon countryside, beautiful valleys and wild moors to venture into.

Explore Dartmoor National Park

Although the whole of Devon is known for its beautiful countryside, Dartmoor National Park is truly a sight to behold; a massive, unspoilt landscape with ancient granite tors, deep, heavily wooded valleys, and long, undulating rivers. The park is also home to a lot of British wildlife, and many visitors come across semi-wild herds of Dartmoor ponies on walks and cycling trips here.

Visit Buckfast Abbey

Nestled at the edge of Dartmoor, in a peaceful, wooded valley Near the River Dart, Buckfast Abbey offers visitors a tranquil refuge from the stresses of everyday life, just as it did for the Benedictine monks and pilgrims of the past. The Abbey church, the centre of this wonderful religious site, is a prime example of gothic/romanesque architecture, surrounded by well-kept gardens that burst with colour in the spring and summer. After soaking it all in and learning a little about the history of the Abbey, settle down for a meal at the Grange Restaurant.
