Around Newton Abbot Racecourse

Newton Abbot is a fine thoroughbread racecourse in south Devon, just below the charming market town of Newton Abbot. It's a magnet for shoppers thanks to its several weekly markets, including a food hall, farmers' market and the excellent indoor market, which is home to dozens of independent local retailers. Nature lovers should head south to Decoy Country Park, a popular walking and picnicking spot, or north east to the calm waters of the River Teign, which is also a popular angling destination.

Newton Abbot is only 20 minutes' drive from Torquay, part of the 'English Riviera' thanks to its delightful beaches and seaside attractions. Gaze across Torquay Harbour, walk the Agatha Christie Mile tour to celebrate the town's most famous former resident and visit Kents Cavern, the UK's most important Stone Age site, believed to have been inhabited around 40,000 years ago.
