See the astounding abbey

Positioned by the River Yeo in north west Dorset, Sherborne has a rich, interesting and beautiful history. Among the town's absolute must-sees is the jaw-dropping Sherborne Abbey. The gigantic abbey was formed back in AD 705 and is today considered by many to be the 'cathedral of Dorset'. It's well worth a visit not only to see the stunning architecture in all its glory, but to learn its history from the knowledgeable experts who welcome you on arrival. While there make sure you visit the Sherborne Museum.

Visit not one, but two castles

History buffs will love exploring the two striking castles in Sherborne. The 'newer' of the two is a stunning Tudor mansion built by Sir Walter Raleigh, with gorgeous gardens designed by the famed Capability Brown. The 'old' castle is in the mansion's grounds and dates back to the 12th century. Today, all that remains are ruins - but they are well worth a look.
