Wincanton - a magical place to stay

The small town of Wincanton in South Somerset has a somewhat unusual claim to fame - it's twinned with Ankh-Morpork, the fictional city of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels. Since it might be hard to visit Ankh-Morpork in real life, Wincanton is close enough for some fans - some roads are even named after streets in the books. Wincanton actually has a fascinating real-life history, too, with the High Street and inns first becoming popular several hundred years ago.

Spend a day at the races

Wincanton Racecourse hosts events throughout the season, and due to its layout with high fences and three close jumps on the home straight, it's a thrilling thoroughbred course which frequently features some very close finishes.

Out into the country

Wincanton is surrounded by stunning countryside, including the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's ideal for a driving holiday, and, with Bath, Bristol and Weston-super-Mare all around an hour's drive away, this is the perfect way to explore the area.
