What to do and see in Edinburgh

Take a trip up to the atmospheric Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile, home to the mysterious Stone of Destiny amongst other treasures. Brace yourself for the famous one o'clock gun then head next door to one of the capital's quirkier attractions: The Camera Obscura and World of Illusions. Wander down the Royal Mile, taking in the atmosphere and whisky shops, and end up at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official Scottish residence. Shop till you drop down Princes Street and George Street or stay Near the Royal Mile for more independent shopping down picturesque steeply winding streets. Stick around come nightfall for great bars and clubs, the area around South Bridge is a good place to start.
