Up-and-coming Abbey Wood

Abbey Wood is an area of south London that's seeing huge investment in local amenities and rail facilities heralding faster routes into central London. Bordered by the borough of Woolwich and the river Thames, Abbey Wood also benefits from proximity to London City Airport at just over 20 minutes away by train. Perhaps surprisingly, Abbey Wood is well known in archaeological circles for being rich in fossils. Head to Lesnes Abbey Wood Fossil Park to find out more. Nearby Danson Park is a great place for a wander with a playground, boating lake and the beautiful Palladian Danson House to explore.

Greenwich - where East meets West

Greenwich is under half an hour's drive away and the Royal Observatory is a popular attraction where you can stand on the Prime Meridian and see the incredible Great Equatorial Telescope, the largest of its kind in the UK. Also in Greenwich is The National Maritime Museum, home to fascinating sea-faring artefacts such as Nelson's Trafalgar coat, and the Cutty Sark where you can step on to the famous vessel itself and enjoy views of the Thames.

Hop over the river Thames

Just under 15 minutes' drive from Abbey Wood is Woolwich Ferry, where you can get a free ride by car, bike or on foot over the river Thames. Once there you're within easy reach of ExCel London, a large convention centre with a full events programme plus plenty of places to eat. Looking for a cheap hotel Near Abbey Wood?
