Chelsfield - a leafy border town

Chelsfield, in the Borough of Bromley, sits around 20 miles south east of London and is right on the border of London and Kent.

It's close to the town of Orpington, which has lots of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets - from well-priced pub grub and traditional Indian cuisine, or (if you fancy splashing out) there are some fine dining options to choose from too.

Orpington's best kept secret

Priory Gardens is just off Orpington's main shopping street, and is a gem of greenspace, parklands and colourful blooms. There's a children's play area to keep the kids busy and a pretty pond frequented by ducks and geese, that makes for an idyllic spot to enjoy a picnic with a packed lunch.

Evolutionary history just minutes away

Around five miles east of Chelsfield is Down House - the spot where scientist Charles Darwin came up with his ground-breaking theory of evolution. Tour the family home and stand in the very study that Darwin wrote down his ideas in his book On the Origin of Species, that is read by people all over the world.
