Peer at a stuffed walrus in London's leafy Forest Hill

Forest Hill in south London is bordered by Dulwich to the west and Crystal Palace to the south. With great links to the city centre thanks to its convenient train station, this is an up-and-coming area with a flourishing food and drink scene and plenty for visitors to enjoy. The renowned Horniman Museum and Gardens has an excellent collection of taxidermy and musical instruments - don't miss the mysterious merman and walrus. Stroll the beautiful gardens and take in the aquarium and 2017's new Butterfly House. This area of London has other lovely green spaces to explore such as the Nearby Mayow Park, and golf-lovers are well catered for with Dulwich and Sydenham Hill Golf Club very close by.

Food and drink in Forest Hill

Forest Hill has a burgeoning foodie scene and there are lots of great pubs to enjoy a pint too. Art deco former cinema The Capitol is run by Wetherspoon's and a popular local hang-out, and the Sylvan Post - in an old post office - is a real-ale pub with a laid-back vintage vibe. Babur Restaurant on Brockley Rise is well regarded for gourmet Indian cuisine.

For more green spaces, Nearby Crystal Palace Park has a farm, playground, and unusual dinosaur sculptures. Catch a train from Forest Park and you can be at London Bridge within 20 minutes, where you're a short walk from Tate Modern, Borough Market and the London Eye.
