Ancient and modern history in Mottingham

Found in south-east London and just nine miles from Charing Cross, Mottingham is believed to have existed in some form since 862 AD, if records are to be believed. It is located close to the stunning Eltham Palace, a 1930s Art Deco mansion which also boasts 19 acres of beautiful gardens.

Go underground at Chislehurst Caves

As well as exploring Eltham Palace, visitors to the area should also check out the incredible Chislehurst Caves. The 22-mile series of manmade tunnels were originally dug to be used as chalk and flint mines as far back as the 12th century, but became popular as a tourist attraction at the start of the 1900s. Another top local place to visit is the Tarn Bird Sanctuary, which is home to a range of fascinating wildfowl.

Considering its close proximity to the centre of London, there is so much to see and do close to Mottingham.
