A fun sentence at Wormwood Scrubs

It may share its name with an infamous prison, but Wormwood Scrubs is actually an open green space in the north eastern corner of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in west London. Parts of it have become a nature reserve where more than 100 species of birds and 20 types of butterfly have made their homes. There are also sports facilities in the area, including the Linford Christie Stadium.

Thanks to excellent public transport links, it's easy to explore the local area around Wormwood Scrubs. Kensington is a short hop away, where visitors can soak up the atmosphere of the famous Portobello Market or take a stroll in Kensington Gardens. The Design Museum in Holland Park isn't far away either, while football fans may want to take in a game at Nearby Loftus Road, home of QPR.

Central London and beyond

Those looking for something further afield can hop on a Tube at White City station and use the Central Line to travel up to Oxford Street, central London's main shopping district. From there it's easy to take in such landmarks as Carnaby Street, the Royal Academy and theatreland. Alternatively, stay on the underground up to St Paul's to marvel at the cathedral.
