A town on the up

Perched on the western cusp of Greater Manchester, there's never been a better time to visit a town enjoying some big changes. While offering a fascinating glimpse into an industrial town with a proud, coal mining history - Ashton is also an area much transformed. Part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, and lying just four miles south of the town itself, it's also conveniently close to all of Wigan's attractions, not to mention lying pretty much equidistant between the thriving northern hubs of Liverpool and Manchester.

Enjoy a memorable day out

The Three Sisters Race Circuit between Ashton in Makerfield and Wigan offers go-karting and driving experiences, providing an unforgettable high-octane day out for teenagers and adults. For the younger ones, Nearby Gioco Play Centre is Wigan's largest indoor soft play area and also hosts parties, while Prendooly's, just south of Ashton Near St Helens, is a similarly appealing prospect. Wigan Roller Rink and AMF Bowling and Quasar Wigan, meanwhile, are ideal for people of all ages.

Eating out

Not only will you have access to Wigan's many restaurants, but Ashton itself has a great dining scene. The Fat Bull Steakhouse and Primo Italian Restaurant are particularly worthy of note. Looking for accommodation in Ashton in Makerfield? Travelodge Haydock St Helens hotel should be right up your street.
