Around Fratton Park

Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth F.C. since 1989, sits just 23 minutes' drive from the city centre. Nearby Blue Reef Aquarium is perfect for a family day out, with its sharks, rays and underwater viewing tunnel. On the coast, Clarence Pier is home to classic seaside amusements including arcades and an indoor playground for little ones.

Explore Portsmouth's Naval History

As the UK's most important naval port during the height of the British empire, Portsmouth is teeming with maritime history. The Royal Navy Submarine Museum offers guided tours of the HMS Alliance, which dates back to the second world war. Head to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Area, which is home to HMS Warrior and the remains of Henry VIII's Mary Rose warship, sunk during the Tudor period and now housed in a fine museum.

Walk the South Downs

Portsmouth is only 25 minutes drive from the South Downs, England's newest national park, established in 2011. It's a magnet for walkers and cyclists thanks to the South Downs Way, a national trail spanning Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex and talking in the famous chalk cliffs and lush woodland.
