Tutankhamun and UFOs in Swaffham

This lovely market town in Norfolk is where Tutankhamun archaeologist Howard Carter grew up. Ride the Mid-Norfolk Railway

To the east of Swaffham is Dereham, from where you can hop aboard the Mid-Norfolk Railway for a steam train journey through the unspoilt rolling countryside. Stop off at Wymondham Abbey and walk up to the magnificent 900-year-old landmark to see its honey-coloured nave, gilded altar screen and intricately carved angel roof.
