Relax in the Norfolk town of Dereham

Dereham is a delightful market town in the heart of Norfolk, just over half an hour's drive from Norwich. Soak up the atmosphere of centuries past at the beautiful thatched Bishop Bonner's Cottage Museum. With its untouched dirt floors and sloping ceilings, it's the oldest surviving domestic building in the town and open to visitors in the warmer months. For another slice of history Dereham Windmill is also worth a visit and you can take a look inside to find out how the structure used to work. Just outside Dereham, Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, open for a large part of the year, has lots to do including admiring rare breed animals and taking a cart ride.

All aboard the steam train

Dereham is home to the mid Norfolk Railway, a heritage line operating steam and diesel services. Take the train to Wymondham, another delightful town rich in heritage where you can enjoy a pint at the medieval Green Dragon Tavern, one of the oldest pubs in Britain. Families will love a trip to Dinosaur Adventure, around 20 minutes' drive from Dereham. Come face to face with life-size dinosaur models, see wallabies, tortoises and snakes in the Secret Animal Garden and burn off steam in the adventure playground.
