Henley on Thames: a traditional market town

Enjoy the hustle and bustle of this historic town as you journey through its streets. Henley is grounded in 900 years of history, and it's retained its identity as a market town today. You'll find boutiques and independent shops selling everything from art and antiques to chocolate and books. Don't forget to stop in one or two of the charming pubs lining the river and hidden in the town centre too.

Scenery to bottle up

The Nearby Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery is a short, pleasant drive away. Set amongst the outstanding natural beauty of the Chiltern Hills, you can while away a blissful afternoon watching - and sampling - a fascinating process. Not the the faint of heart, why not delve into the weird and wonderful world of ghosts, ghouls and ghastly murders with a tour from Henley-on-Thames Heritage. With a local historian on hand to give you a serious dose of history, you'll be guided around Henley's streets and told all about its gory past.

Excitement all round at the Henley Royal Regatta

Established in 1839, the Regatta is one of the UK's most famous and historic events still in full swing. Set on the River Thames, the five-day extravaganza of all things rowing spans over the first weekend in July, so usually welcomes the fine weather. You don't even need to buy enclosure tickets, simply bag a free spot by the river and watch the boats go by. Regatta week is a great time to be in and around the thriving town, taking in a very British spectacle.
