Enjoy the parklife at the University of Reading

Originally created as an extension of the Oxford University, the University of Reading became independent in 1926 and was the only institution of its kind to be granted a Royal Charter between the two World Wars. The university's main campus sits on the edge of the city's Whiteknights Lake and in a stunning 130 hectares of parkland, making it a picturesque location for studying.

Head into the great outdoors

The local area, as a whole, also has its fair share of stunning locations, with Dinton Pastures Country Park boasting 335 acres of countryside including fishing lakes and hides for twitchers to enjoy a spot of birdwatching. Lovers of the great outdoors will also enjoy exploring the Nearby Chiltern Hills, which were designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1965.

Have a day to remember at Ascot

Sports fans will also find plenty to do in Reading and the local area. Head to the Madejski Stadium to watch the town's football team in action, or get suited and booted for a day out at Ascot. The world famous racecourse is just a 30-minute drive away from Reading, with the renowned Royal Ascot taking place annually in June. Planning a trip to the University of Reading? Travelodge Reading Whiteley Hotel is around two miles away, while Travelodge Winnersh Triangle Hotel is another great alternative option in the local area.
