Lying between Leicester and Peterborough, Uppingham is one of only three towns in the tiny rural county of Rutland, and is best known for its public school. Built by William the Conqueror, this remarkable former royal fortress and hunting lodge just south of Uppingham is surrounded by magnificent gardens and grounds. Events take place here throughout the year, from Easter egg hunts to pumpkin trails.
