A day at the races at Sandown Park

On the outskirts of south west London, leafy Esher is home to Sandown Park Racecourse - a favourite of many punters. Fancy a memorable day out? In the premier enclosure ladies are encouraged to wear hats and men collared shirts to add to the glamour, but the grandstand has a more relaxed dress code. If horses aren't your thing, try the karting track next door for a different kind of race action. Two tracks have fast straights and hairpin bends, so hold onto that hat...

Admire the scenery at Claremont Landscape Garden

Stroll round the lake, or check out Europe's only surviving turf amphitheatre. This National Trust garden has a camellia terrace, a grotto and a belevedere tower where views as far as Windsor Castle can be enjoyed when open. For children there's a play area with a playhouse, slide and a climbing wall.

Soak up the village atmosphere

There's plenty to see and do when out and about in Esher, from its picturesque green, Tudor church and wide variety of restaurants and cafes to try. Esher Commons is a site of special scientific interest and its habitats include ponds, woods and heathland. Looking for accommodation Near Esher? Try the Travelodge Walton-On-Thames just over 2 miles away, or Travelodge Kingston Upon Thames Central a little further afield.
