Gatwick - more than just an airport

The airport is what brings most people to Gatwick, but why not see what else the area has to offer?

Some popular attractions are Nearby, including Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, and the stunning botanical gardens at Wakehurst Place, while great transport links mean central London is within easy reach.

Spread your wings at Gatwick Aviation Museum

To get you in the mood for flying, check out this aviation museum next to the airport. Get up close to British aircraft built between the end of World War Two and the 1970s, including the Hawker Sea Hawk and Avro Shackleton. The museum isn't open every day though, so check the times before you visit.

Elsewhere, the Wings Museum in Nearby Balcombe offers you a chance to see rare wartime aircraft. In the centre is a complete plane fuselage that you can walk inside and explore.

Go ape in Tilgate Park

Just a 10-minute drive from the airport is this vast park with picturesque lakes, perfectly manicured lawns and gardens bursting with colour. It's a lovely place to spend time relaxing or getting active. The woodlands and bridleways make it ideal for hiking and horse riding.

You can also see otters, a serval cat, parrots and chameleons at Tilgate Nature Centre, or tackle zip wires and Tarzan swings at Go Ape!
