The legend of Robin Hood

A busy town located between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, Mirfield has a long association with Robin Hood; visit the Kirklees Priory gatehouse where he supposedly met his death, before moving onto his grave on the Kirklees Park Estate.

The great outdoors

Surrounded by miles of open countryside, Mirfield is an ideal base from which cyclists and walkers can explore the South Pennines. Drive a couple of miles down the road to Dewsbury Country Park, the largest new woodland in Yorkshire. Great for rambling and mountain biking, the kids will also enjoy activities like den building, woodland crafts and campfire cooking.

Family experiences in West Yorkshire

Spend a day at the National Coal Mining Museum for England, a fantastic experience for adults and kids alike. Free to enter, it provides a great combination of educational and exciting experiences, including a unique opportunity to travel underground to one of Britain's oldest working mines. Take a relaxing boat ride along the canal at Shipley Bridge Marina, or head over to Greenhead Park where you'll find a skate park, bowling greens, play areas and even a miniature steam railway.
