Things to do in Todmorden

Take a tour of Todmorden Town Hall, an iconic Grade 1 listed building. It was formerly situated in both Lancashire and Yorkshire until the county boundary was moved in the late 19th century. While away a few hours at the indoor Todmorden market hall, packed full of traditional stalls selling a wide variety of wares, including everything from fresh produce to hardware to handmade gifts.

Local landmarks

Discover Stoodley Pike, a stone obelisk towering over stunning countryside. Built in 1856 to mark the end of the Crimean War, the monument contains an internal spiral staircase of 39 steps which gives access to a 40-feet high balcony and panoramic views. Hike over to the Gaddings Dam, an 1833 earth embankment dam located on top of the moors between Todmorden and Walsden. Enjoy fantastic views from The Bridestones, then walk across to the fine sculpture of the Wizard of Whirlaw, based upon a fictional character made famous by local author William Holt.

Visit the Gorpley Clough Local Nature Reserve, a lovely steep-sided wooded valley with a series of waterfalls along a tumbling upland stream - a fantastic place for nature watching or just relaxing with a picnic.
