1. Best cheap eats (£)

The Sea Tree

Putting a twist on traditional fish and chips, the Sea Tree does its best to source sustainable fish and offers luxurious plates including honey-roasted salmon and fish stew at great prices. The Sunday brunch is particularly tasty, whilst the hearty fisherman’s pie will leave you feeling fully satisfied.

Fitzbillies

Serving delicious lunches, tea and afternoon cakes as well as brunch at the weekend, this vintage-style café is the place to find fuss-free food at great prices. Fitzbillies is a student favourite, so you can mingle with some of the world’s leading academics whilst you feast on pies, tarts and delicious baked goods.

2. A little bit of luxury (££)

St Johns Chop House

Looking for a cosy place to grab a bite to eat and a beer? St Johns Chop House features wood-burning stoves and exposed wooden beams as well as real ale and cask beers. Mains range from £10-£15 and include luxurious offerings such as venison heart and pork t-bone. Our Travelodge Cambridge hotel is close by, so you can curl up in a cosy bed if you’ve over-indulged.

Wrestlers Pub

Thai food at the Wrestlers has taken on an almost legendary status in Cambridge. From the outside, the pub doesn’t look like much, but once you step inside you’ll be treated to wooden tables, shabby-chic decorations and delicious smells arising from the adjacent kitchens. The menu is packed full of dishes that are all around the £10 mark.

3. High-end options (£££)

Restaurant 22

A well-kept local secret, Restaurant 22 is a short walk from the centre of town and is essentially a Victorian town house that has been turned into a restaurant. It only seats 26 and there is a set menu that changes regularly, but is always delicious.

Midsummer House

One of the best fine-dining experiences in the area, Midsummer House offers 5-, 7- or 10-course tasting menus that are packed full of seasonal dishes such as barbecued Cumbrian lamb and Cornish mackerel. They also do vegetarian options and helpful wine pairings.

Cotto

Sitting on East Road, Cotto has a café and deli counter downstairs and a high-end restaurant serving up light and fresh dishes upstairs. With perfectly cooked fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, and the divine smell of freshly-baked bread filling the room, this is a prime place to celebrate. Go for a luxurious three-course meal, and don’t miss the cheeseboard.
