Whether you’re hunting for eggs in a Scottish castle or chasing scientific wonders in the capital, we’ve got your ultimate family guide to a ‘bonnie’ Easter in Scotland 🐥

If you’re looking for an Easter getaway that combines epic natural landscape and plenty of charming heritage, there is no place quite like Scotland in the springtime! As the Highlands begin to bloom and the cities buzz with festive energy, the 2026 Easter Bank Holiday is shaping up to be a ‘braw’ weekend for families of all ages.

We’ve put together a four-day itinerary that captures the very best of Scottish spirit. So, grab your waterproofs (just in case!), here is your ultimate family-friendly guide to an unforgettable Easter in Scotland.

Good Friday – 3rd April 2026

Start your holiday at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with the annual Easter Trail – an absolute family favourite. Kids can follow the map through the budding spring flowers to find hidden clues and claim a sweet surprise at the end. It’s the perfect way to let them run free in 70 acres of stunning greenery.

Calton Hill at sunriseNext up, we’re heading into Edinburgh’s Old Town and spending the Friday afternoon exploring the Royal Mile. Check out the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions – five floors of mind-bending fun that kids of all ages obsess over (the Mirror Maze is a legendary energy-burner!). Or for a medieval affair, head up the Royal Mile to the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

And if the weather is clear, take the kids up the slopes of Arthur’s Seat, or Calton Hill for a shorter hike, and check out the local ‘egg rolling’. Egg rolling is a centuries-old Scottish tradition that involves rolling a hard-boiled egg down the Scottish slopes – plus, it offers some of the best views of the city skyline!

Saturday – 4th April 2026

Saturday takes you to the heart of Scotland’s history. Stirling Castle is hosting a special Lambs on the Loose Easter Trail. Kids will need to help find the mischievous spring lambs hiding around Stirling Castle’s Great Hall and the Royal Palace for the chance to win a chocolate-y reward!

Doune CastleAfter conquering the castle, drive 20 minutes down the road to the Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boat lift. This incredible piece of engineering connects the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. After you’ve marvelled at this epic Scottish machinery, be sure to check out Falkirk Wheels’ nearby activities, including a boat tour, stand-up paddleboarding, archery, mini golf and so much more!

Easter Sunday – 5th April 2026

Get ready for a high-energy Sunday! Glasgow Science Centre is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a massive Building Wonders programme. Families can take on the legendary Egg Drop Challenge in the Design Studio – working together to build a contraption that keeps a real egg safe from a three-story drop! And after all this crafting fun, treat the little ones to a cinematic adventure at Glasgow Science Centre’s iMAX Cinema and see the all-new ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ in 2D or 3D.

Loch LomondIf you want to balance science and cinema with nature, take the 30-minute drive to Loch Lomond Shores. On Easter Sunday, they’ll be hosting the famous Springfest Food & Drink Festival from 10am – 5pm. Expect plenty of treats on offer from local street vendors. Or if a longer hike is more your vibe, take a short drive north to Loch Lomond Faerie Trail in Luss, where the woods are filled with tiny magical houses and hidden clues.

Bank Holiday Monday – 6th April 2026

For the final day of the long weekend, head north to the ‘City of Discovery.’ The V&A Dundee is launching its blockbuster 2026 exhibition: Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show. While that sounds fancy, the museum is famous for its family-friendly Design Studios where kids can sketch their own wild outfits or build structures inspired by the runway.

Wrap up your trip with a visit to Broughty Ferry beach, just a 15-minute drive along the coast. This beach is home to a great play park and a historic castle right on the sands. Grab some world-famous Viso Gelato and take a walk along the beach to see if you can spot the resident Bottlenose Dolphins, in the Tay, jumping in the waves.
