Piers are a little slice of British history right on the water. They’re a symbol of the great value seaside getaway, where you can feel the sea breeze, grab a snack and take in some brilliant views.

They’re also the perfect place to start an adventure! We love them so much, we’ve put together a list of our favourite UK piers and all the things you can get up to nearby. And, of course, we’ll let you know where you can find a comfy bed for the night.

1. Brighton Palace Pier

Brighton Palace PierFirst up is the iconic Brighton Palace Pier. It’s a proper classic, packed with all the stuff you’d expect from a great pier. There’s a big arcade with all the games you could want, and a funfair with rides for both little kids and big kids alike. It’s lively and has a real buzz about it.

After all that excitement, you can grab some traditional fish and chips or a delicious doughnut and take in the sea air.

2. Llandudno Pier

Llandudno PierThis is one for those who love a bit of history and charm. Llandudno Pier is a stunning Victorian pier that’s incredibly well-preserved. It’s the longest pier in Wales and has a real old-school feel to it, perfect for a romantic stroll or a relaxed afternoon.

You can browse the little stalls, grab an ice cream and just soak up the atmosphere. It’s a beautifully simple experience that feels like a step back in time.

3. Blackpool Central Pier

Blackpool Pleasure BeachBlackpool is famous for its bright lights and entertainment, and the Central Pier is no exception. It’s a hub of activity with a big Ferris wheel, a funfair and plenty of places to grab a drink. It’s a fantastic place for a fun-filled day out with the whole family or a group of mates.

The pier is also home to a live entertainment venue, so you can catch a show or a bit of live music.

4. Clevedon Pier

Next up, Clevedon Pier, voted Pier of the Year in 2021. This isn’t just any old pier; it’s famous! And for good reason. It’s been the backdrop for plenty of TV shows, films and music videos, from One Direction’s ‘You & I’ hit to 2010 film Never Let Me Go – so you might feel like you’ve seen it before. It’s got a Grade I listed status which means it’s a bit of a national treasure. No wonder it’s known as the most beautiful pier in England.

You can take a stroll, watch the waves and grab a bite to eat in the cafe. It’s a proper peaceful spot, perfect for a relaxed day out.

5. Southend Pier

Southend PierDid you know that Southend Pier is the longest pleasure pier in the world? We’re not joking, it’s massive! You can even take a train all the way to the end, which is a brilliant adventure in itself. Once you’re out there, you’re properly out at sea, with incredible panoramic views all around.

At the end of the pier, there’s a cafe and a lifeboat station. It’s a unique experience and one you definitely won’t forget.
