Welcome to Launceston

Nestled Near the border of Devon, Launceston is one of Cornwall's many historical hotspots. All you have to do is take a wander around some of its narrow, winding streets to get a feel for just how ancient the town is. Its Norman castle served as a prison during many of England's religious persecutions, and its local market vendors and independent shops exude the spirit of a timeless agricultural community.

Exploring Tamar Valley

Covering parts of the rivers Tamar, Lynher, and Tavy, the Tamar Valley is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and an important site in Cornwall's proud mining history. Maintained by a tireless group of volunteers, Tamar Valley is a popular area for boating, walks, and cycling, and visitors often explore it to learn more about the fascinating personal stories that are tied to the historic mining industry.

Discover Launceston Castle

Standing atop a prominent natural mound, Launceston Castle is the town's most ancient historical site, with construction started soon after the start of the Norman conquest. Its rounded, unusual keep can be explored via a dark, winding staircase inside, and various displays highlight the most interesting facets of the castle's history, including the story of the founder of the Quaker movement, George Fox, who was imprisoned at the castle in the 16th century.
