Glossop - gateway to the Peaks

This bustling market town sits on the edge of the High Peaks, just outside of the gorgeous national park. It's the place to visit if you're looking to explore the Peak District, and within easy reach of Manchester, too. Glossop sits at the foot of the Snake Pass, a notoriously winding road that straddles the Pennines. If you love hiking, the town is within easy reach of some of the area's best routes, from Bleaklow and Black Hill to Kinder Scout and the Longdendale Trail.

Picnic at Old Glossop

Glossop was once a small village, and part of the original 12th-century settlement still exists today as Old Glossop. The name doesn't disappoint - the village is home to a number of relics, including a medieval market cross and charming stone cottages. Manor Park sits on the border of Old Glossop, on the former grounds of the Duke of Norfolk. Today, it's the perfect place to bring the family for a picnic or a simple stroll.

Explore the best of Glossop's high street

If countless walks and a medieval village isn't enough, Glossop High Street is lined with plenty of quirky independent shops and eateries to keep you busy. You'll find everything from books and fashion to antiques here, while the award-winning restaurants are worth a visit for excellent, and reasonably priced, local food. Planning a trip to Glossop? The Travelodge Glossop Hotel, situated at the centre of the town, is the perfect place to use as your base while you're exploring the Peaks. Nearby Travelodge Ashton under Lyne is also a great choice.
