Life's a beach in Weymouth

It's easy to see why this Dorset resort is one of the most popular seaside towns in the UK. Its golden sandy beach is the perfect place to soak up some rays, and the sheltered shallow waters are ideal for taking a dip. What's more, Weymouth is one of the sunniest places in the country.

A fine Georgian esplanade runs along the seafront, and you'll find lots of traditional seaside fun here, from Punch and Judy and donkey rides to the thrilling fairground attractions of Fantasy Island.

Soak up the atmosphere of Weymouth Harbour

Weymouth's bustling marina is a great place to watch the world go by - admire luxury yachts and see fishermen bringing in the catch of the day. Try the fresh seafood for yourself at Crustacean, which serves up fish stew, crab cakes and calamari, or tuck into fish and chips out of the wrapper.

There's also an antiques emporium here, and in summer you might even catch the historic lifting of the Town Bridge.

Go fossil-hunting along the Jurassic Coast

No trip to Weymouth is complete without exploring this amazing stretch of coastline, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Why not hire a bike and ride in the footsteps of dinosaurs on the Jurassic Cycle Trails? In Weymouth itself, get panoramic views of the natural wonder from the Jurassic Skyline viewing capsule, which rotates slowly high up in the air to give you plenty of photo opportunities.
