A picture-perfect village in rural Wales

You'd never guess that the sleepy rural village of Carmel is less than an hour away from Liverpool. It's one of Flintshire's many postcard communities and a great place to get away from it all if you're looking for a break. Enjoy a hearty meal at the village pub before donning your boots and heading out into the countryside.

Go back in time to the Industrial Revolution

For a fantastic day out with the kids, take them to Greenfield Valley Heritage Park in Holywell. This interactive museum takes you back in time to the Tudors and through the Victorian era, where you can experience what it was like to live at a time of huge industrial change. Not sure what to do with the little ones? With Toddler Tractor Heaven and the Adventure Tree House, as well as a petting zoo with sheep and goats, your toddler definitely won't be bored.

Explore the best of rural Flintshire

From Carmel, you're just a short drive away from some of Flintshire's best attractions, from historic Moel Famau in Mold to the stunning waterfalls at Wepre Park. Craving a bit of sun, sea and sand? Talacre Beach, at the northernmost point of Wales, is a 20-minute drive away. Planning a trip to Carmel? Travelodge Halkyn is just 15 minutes from the village, with great access to Mold and Connah's Quay, too. Or try our Chester Northrop Hall hotel a little further down the road.
