Explore Gloucester's history

Kingsholm Stadium is located in the city of Gloucester and home to the local rugby union team. The city itself is filled with history, founded in the first century by the Romans. Gloucester cathedral was founded in 678, and has been a historic backdrop to blockbuster films and TV shows, including Doctor Who and Harry Potter. St Mary de Lode, with its Norman tower and chancel, is said to be one of the earliest Christian churches in Britain. A stroll around the city's compact centre reveals a wealth of charming timbered medieval and Tudor buildings, many well preserved.
