Get to know the sights of Plaistow

A residential area in Newham, east London, Plaistow is mainly made up of houses and blocks of flats, but it does have some distinguished pubs and eateries, including the Black Lion on the high street, one of the oldest landmarks in Plaistow, which is popular with former West Ham players.

You'll find larger shopping centres and restaurants in the neighbouring areas of Stratford, West Ham and Green Street, all within walking distance.

Take it easy in Newham's parks and gardens

The area is home to some pleasant green spaces where you can chill or get active. Plaistow Park has a five-a-side football area, plus sand pit and paddling pool for youngsters, while the Memorial Recreation Ground is home to a tranquil wildflower meadow and floodlit sports pitches.

For a scenic walk, we recommend taking the Greenway, a path above one of London's major sewers to the Olympic Park in Stratford. Trust us - it's a lot more pleasant than it sounds.

Shop in the shadow of the Olympic Park at Westfield

With more than 250 stores, you're in retail wonderland at the Westfield Stratford City mall. Find everything from Adidas and The Amazing Chocolate Workshop to Victoria's Secret and Zara. It's not just for shoppers though, as there's a 17-screen cinema and luxury bowling alley too. On top of all that, you get fantastic views of the Olympic Park to boot.
