Sporting glory in West Ham

Bordered by the River Lea and London Olympic Park, this east London neighbourhood has benefited from the regeneration brought by the 2012 Games.

Local football club West Ham United is named after the area. Despite the Boleyn Ground being demolished after the club moved to the London Stadium, sport is still a big passion here, and former boxing world champ Lennox Lewis was born here

Go for a wander in West Ham Park

The largest park in the borough of Newham is a leafy green oasis where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life for a while.

See what wildlife you can spot as you stroll through the ornamental gardens and wildflower meadows. If you want to burn off a few calories, you can jog, cycle, play tennis or get some friends together for a game of rounders. Younger members of your group can have fun in the playground and paddling pool in summer.

Shop in the shadow of the Olympic Park at Westfield

With more than 250 stores, shopaholics will be in retail heaven at the Westfield Stratford City mall. Find everything from Accessorize and The Amazing Chocolate Workshop to Victoria's Secret and Zara. There's also a 17-screen cinema and bowling alley, not to mention fantastic views of the Olympic Park.
