Shadwell nightlife

Shadwell in east London sits a few minutes walk from the north bank of the River Thames in the historic docklands area. Today the industry is gone but Shadwell is within easy reach of some fantastic nightlife. The George Tavern is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in London, dating back to the Georgian period. It's been lovingly preserved and has hosted photoshoots for pop stars like Amy Winehouse. You can still catch emerging live bands in the evenings. Take the overground two stops south to Canada Water, where Printworks plays host to huge name DJs in the former printing house of the London Evening Standard.

Buzzing Whitechapel

Jump on the 135 bus from Shadwell and you'll be in Whitechapel in 10 minutes. Start at Whitechapel Gallery, one the capital's most renowned contemporary galleries, before heading to busy Whitechapel Market to browse bargain fashion and fresh produce. Genesis Cinema is a charming (and reasonably priced) playhouse. You can't visit Whitechapel without going for a curry. Tayyabs has reached almost mythical status, and there are dozens of South Asian restaurants along Whitechapel Road.

Stylish Shoreditch

Shadwell is just two stops on the Overground from Shoreditch, East London's trendy epicentre. Next to the station, Boxpark is a quirky maze of stylish retailers, bars and food stalls all housed in shipping containers. Head to the famous Brick Lane Market for cutting edge fashion and homeware.
