Soak up the history of vibrant Limehouse

Taking its name from the pottery kilns that once littered the area, Limehouse in Tower Hamlets has a distinct and fascinating history dating back to the 14th century. The district also has strong naval links - indeed its name is often erroneously attributed to the sailors ("Limeys") who disembarked and stayed there. Today, it remains endlessly intriguing: gentrified in parts and staunchly working class in others, and with a vibrant, multicultural feel throughout.

Take in a show

Limehouse is gaining a reputation as a trendy location, thanks to its venues such as Jamboree, which stages some decent modern music concerts, and the Half Moon Theatre, which is home to enticing and cutting-edge theatre. Elsewhere the Museum of London Docklands, also in Limehouse, provides a fascinating history for the area. Round off with a visit to the Craft Beer Co Limehouse, another testament to the town's status amongst the trendier subset of Londoners.
