A town on the up

A good sized town in Trafford, Greater Manchester, lying just under 4 miles from the city centre, Stretford - similar to Nearby Salford - has recently been busy forging its own identity rather than riding the considerable coattails of Manchester. The presence of Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United Football Club, however, means it will forever share ties with the city.

A blast from the past at the Imperial War Museum

The Imperial War Museum North is located in adjacent borough of Trafford, and is within easy reach of Stretford. Housed in a frankly stunning modern building on the Quays, it is home to a number of fascinating exhibits exploring the history of conflicts across the globe. Great for history buffs or kids eager to learn, and the free admission is a bonus.

A fun day out for the whole family

With the Land of Play - an indoor children's play centre featuring go kart track and cafe - on the doorstep, and plenty of museums and galleries such as The Lowry within easy reach, it's not hard to plan a day - or several - in Stretford. Looking for affordable places to stay in Stretford? Travelodge Manchester Sale Hotel is just off the M60, while Travelodge Manchester Trafford Park Hotel is convenient for those heading in on the M62. Both offer great value for quality rooms.
