Experience East Lanchashire countryside

The town of Rawtenstall can be found in the heart of the Rossendale Valley and is a beautiful part of the East Lancashire countryside. To learn about the local history of the Rossendale district, visit The Whitaker, a museum that can be found close to Rawtenstall town centre. It has a contemporary art gallery with exhibitions frequently changing and a cafe onsite. To complete a great day out, take a stroll around Whitaker Park, starting from Ski Rossendale.

Experiencing Lancashire heritage

Tie in your museum visit with an experiential train ride on the East Lancashire Railway Station. From Rawtenstall, this 12.5 mile heritage railway line travels to Heywood, Bury and Ramsbottom. On the daily timetable are diesel and steam locomotives and the fares are reasonably priced. Keep an eye out on the regular activities held on the trains as there are many family friendly things to do with the East Lancashire Railway.

Hit the slopes

Ski Rossendale is an outdoor activity centre with 3 artificial ski slopes for skiing and snowboarding. The main slope is 200 metres and caters for all ages and abilities and there is a cafe for refreshments. The Ski Rossendale venue is well known nationwide by experienced skiers and is surrounded by fantastic views of the Rossendale Valley. Daily tickets are well priced and spectators are free of charge. Stay at Travelodge Burnley, just over 6 miles to Rawtenstall.
