Once an estate for a wealthy chief forester, Cockfosters has been transformed over the centuries into a charming village, so picture-perfect it's hard to believe you're so close to the capital. Discover ancient woodland and historic monuments

Today, it's said to be haunted by Geoffrey De Mandeville, Earl of Sussex and Hertfordshire and Constable of the Tower of London, who guards the treasure he hid down a well before being arrested for treason.
