The gateway to Edinburgh and the Borders

Less than 10 miles away from Edinburgh, the town of Penicuik is a great base from which to explore Scotland's capital city and all that it has to offer, including national institutions such as Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, and the National Museum of Scotland, as well as fantastic shopping, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Things to do in and around Penicuik

The ruined Penicuik House is considered one of the finest examples of Palledian architecture; free to visit and set in 185 hectares, it provides a perfect backdrop to family walks and picnics. History enthusiasts will also love to visit Castlelaw - an impressive Iron Age hill fort set into the beautiful Pentland Hills. Nature lovers won't be able to resist the Leadburn Community Woodland, an old Forestry Commission site that now provides a variety of natural habitats species including owls and deer.

Something for the kids

On a wet day, the family will love Krazy Kidz, a minimum stress, maximum fun soft play barn and laser quest experience; mum and dad can relax with a fresh coffee from the snack bar while the kids let off some steam.
