Country life in Fakenham

For a snapshot of country life, head to Fakenham in East Anglia - once voted the 7th best place to live in Britain. Fakenham Racecourse is one of the more casual tracks in the country, with an extremely friendly and relaxed atmosphere and no official dress code. It can be a particularly enjoyable day in the summer sun, with fantastic views from the grandstand and children under 16 are admitted free of charge, making it an enjoyable day for the whole family at minimal cost.

Fakenham Museum of Gas and Local History

The only remaining gasworks left standing in England and Wales, after shutting in 1965 it was reopened by the Duke of Gloucester and the local archeological society converted it into a museum. The collection within the museum offers a glimpse into the past, with cultural, social and industrial heritage all on display.

Just a few miles west of Fakenham lies the Norfolk retreat of Her Majesty the Queen. Visitors can enjoy everything from the vast gardens, to the museum and superb dining facilities -�where you can be served afternoon tea like the Queen herself.
