Wells - a hidden coastal gem

With its long sweeping beach backed by pine woodland, harbour fishing boats and tree-lined park, this unspoilt North Norfolk coastal town is a joy to explore.

The narrow lanes are filled with chic shops, eateries and galleries, while a narrow-gauge railway runs from the town to the beach, with its famous multicoloured beach huts.

Wells is a haven for birdwatchers, with regular sightings of bitterns, terns, oystercatchers, avocets and marsh harriers.

Explore Holkham Hall

Just along the coast is one of England's finest agricultural estates. Holkham Hall is an elegant Palladian-style house, home to the Earls of Leicester. It's surrounded by rolling parkland and a 3,000-acre deer park.

The Marble Hall is a brilliant introduction to the building, and stairs lead to state rooms displaying exquisite collections of original furniture, tapestries and paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck and Gainsborough. While you're at Holkham, learn more about farming on the estate - have a go at milling flour and discover why cow pats are so important.

Go seal-spotting at Blakeney Point

At this wildlife paradise on the North Norfolk coast, you can get up close to both grey and common seals. A boat will take you out into the open waters of Blakeney Channel among the sailing dinghies. Ahead of you is the Point, where you'll see a diverse array of seabirds and animals. The seals are the stars of the show though, and over 2,000 seal pups are born here every year.
