Hawes, home of Wensleydale cheese

The delightful market town of Hawes lies in Upper Wensleydale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This is where Wensleydale cheese is made, made famous by Wallace and Gromit, and you can see how it's done as well as sample some for yourself at the popular Wensleydale Creamery. Step inside the Dales Countryside Museum to find out more about the area's past, and the neighbouring National Park Centre is a good place to help guide you around the area's many attractions. See ropes being made at Outhwaite Ropemakers, book a guided tour round Gayle Mill or nosey round the town's delightful independent shops and cafes, plus thriving market day on Tuesdays.
