Conisbrough, home to a famous castle

Found midway between Doncaster and Rotherham, this pleasant town is steeped in history. It's home to the oldest building in South Yorkshire, the Anglo-Saxon St Peter's Church.

The town's major landmark is the magnificent Conisbrough Castle. The towering 12th-century keep played a major role in the Wars of the Roses and inspired Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe. The three floors are inhabited by animated characters projected on to the walls who'll tell you all about the history of the castle.
