Explore the history of the Fort

Shoreham-by-Sea, found below the South Downs in West Sussex, is, as the name suggests, a wonderful town by the sea. But there's so much more than sea and sand to enjoy, thanks to the area's rich history. Shoreham Fort, which dates back to 1857 and is famed for being a splendid example of 'experimental fortification', is well worth a visit. Entry is free and you can stroll up straight from the beach. Keep an eye out for special events - from a Military History Weekend celebration, to kid-friendly days full of fun activities, there's always something going on at Shoreham Fort.

Get cultural at the Ropetackle Centre

The Ropetackle Arts Centre is a hub for the coolest, and best-performing arts events in the UK. The centre itself is run by the Shoreham-by-Sea community, with many of the pleasant staff working there being local volunteers. Whether you're looking for art, music or spoken-word talks, it's all happening at Ropetackle.

Feast at the Farmers' Market

If your stomach's rumbling, there's nowhere better for you than the Shoreham Farmers' Market. The market is held on the second Saturday of every month, and brings together all kinds of food from the local area. Fish, fresh fruit and veg, meat, bread and even drinks from local brewers are all available, so make sure you're hungry! Planning a trip to Shoreham-by-Sea?
