The Hexagon Theatre and South Street Arts Centre are both excellent venues, with the latter attracting big names in music and comedy. The shopping in Reading town centre is excellent, with independent boutiques alongside big-name brands, and the nightlight is worth experiencing - particularly the Purple Turtle.

London is within easy reach of the Madejski, a little over an hour by road and slightly less by public transport. This means the capital - and all its sights and sounds - makes for a tempting daytrip.
