Cream teas, painted barges and more in Tiverton

This peaceful market town in the heart of Devon is the ideal base for exploring the hidden gems of the county's magnificent countryside. The historic city of Exeter is a 30-minute car journey away. Here you've got great shopping and the grandeur of the cathedral and Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

Travel by horse-drawn barge

The Grand Western Canal meanders through 11 miles of beautiful Devon countryside between Tiverton and the Somerset border. You can walk or cycle along the towpath, but one of the best ways to travel is on a leisurely ride aboard a colourful barge pulled along the canal by a shire horse. Afterwards, treat yourself to a traditional Devon cream tea in the Canal Tea Rooms.

Explore the wonders of the moors

In Tiverton, you're perfectly placed for exploring both Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks. They offer a wealth of walking and wildlife-spotting opportunities, as well as activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking and horse riding. Planning a trip to Tiverton?
