Gorton, birthplace of 'the Blues'
Lying to the south-east of Manchester city centre, the suburb of Gorton played an important role in the thriving locomotive industry in the 19th century. It's other claim to fame is being the official birthplace of Manchester City FC. For many years, TV drama Shameless was also filmed in the area.
The neighbourhood's major landmark is the Grade II-listed Gorton Monastery, a 19th-century former Franciscan friary. It now hosts weddings, concerts and community events.
